Dear Parent,
Thank you for registering your child/children for the Home Based Summer Programme for children with complex needs.
We appreciate some parents have concerns about accessing the programme in school or sourcing tutors or SNAs for a home based provision but we would like to assure you that we are working to provide guidance to schools as soon as possible in order for them to confirm programmes.
If you are satisfied that your child is eligible for the programme, and your school is not running a School Based Programme, you are free to engage a tutor or SNA to deliver the programme for your child/children.
Schools in your area may be able to help in identifying a suitable tutor or SNA.
Information on children’s eligibility is available here. If in doubt about your child/children eligibility, please consult your child’s school(s).
The Home Based Programme is available for eligible children at primary level only where the child’s school is not running a programme or does not have the capacity to accommodate a child in a planned programme.
Because there is no school based programme at post primary, the Home Based Programme is also available for eligible post primary children.
There are a few websites which may be of help to you if you are trying to source a suitable tutor or SNA including those listed here https://ncse.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020 … n_2020.pdf
You may also wish to check with service providers and advocacy groups like AsIAm, Inclusion or Down Syndrome Ireland to see if they can support or advise you or help make connections to services.
After the programme has been delivered for your child/children, you should then submit the completed and signed application form (available here) to the Department of Education Skills so the grant due can be paid to you.
Please read carefully and follow the guidance on Summer Programme available here. Failure to do so may cause delay later on when your grant application is being processed.
Any queries can be emailed to HomeBasedsummerprogram@education.gov.ie or in writing to Summer Education Programme, Special Education Section, Department of Education & Skills, Cornamaddy, Athlone.
